Mindfulness has been shallowly associated nowadays with mere meditation or doing yoga in an isolated and quiet place. But is this all there is to mindfulness? Oxford Languages defines this as the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. In today’s episode, our guest defines mindfulness as being present in the current moment in the here and now, and not being caught up in the past nor the future. Jane Martino is a mother and published author with her series of six ‘Thank-you’ books, a book entitled Mindfulness Made Easy, and a five-book picture book series in partnership with Smiling Mind. Jane’s Take-Home Message for Parents and Educators
Nurture a child’s innate capacity to be in the present moment by not rushing them and stopping to look at something. See things from a child’s perspective. Spend time without distraction.
Gratitude and the thought of gratitude is something that I think is so important to embed in families.
I think it’s also seeing things from a child’s perspective a bit more. Sometimes we look at everything as adults, and so I think if we can get down to their level and do that, I think that would be really good.”
